Our institute follows the guidelines outlined in Office Memorandum (O.M.) No. SR/S9/Z-08/2018 dated 30.01.2019, issued by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, regarding revised emoluments for research personnel under R&D programs funded by Central Government Departments/Agencies. In accordance with these guidelines, eligible scholars in our programs receive financial assistance in the form of a monthly stipend of ₹37,000 for Junior Research Fellows (JRF) (Ph.D. students with two years or less of research) and ₹42,000 for Senior Research Fellows (SRF) (Ph.D. students with more than two years of research). This initiative underscores our commitment to promoting research excellence and providing robust support to our scholars in their academic endeavors.
Admission Policy
Candidates must hold a recognized first-class full-time bachelor's degree in technological (B.E. or B.Tech.) discipline.
Candidates must have at least 4 years (and less than 10 years) full-time industrial experience across domains such as manufacturing, operations, consulting, as on the last date of submission of application as prescribed in the advertisement.
The eligible candidates should apply online and register themselves on the Admission Portal.

An applicant should have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualifications (of at least three-year degree duration) with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent CGPA/Grades from a recognized university/institute after at least 12 years of school education.

For GMAT, a minimum overall score of 700 is required with an Integrated Reasoning (IR) score greater than or equal to 5 (five). For GRE, a minimum score of 310 is required. Last Date of Ph.D. (Regular/Executive) Application Portal till 31st March 2026
A master’s degree or Two-year Post Graduate Diploma (obtained after completing a bachelor's degree with 55% marks or equivalent) or a 5-year Integrated master’s degree (obtained after completing higher secondary school in the 10+2 pattern) in any field with 55% marks or equivalent.
OR
Professional qualification - CA, CS, CMA (with a minimum of 50% marks) in addition to a bachelor's degree (with at least 55% marks).
OR
A four-year / eight-semester bachelor’s degree with a minimum CGPA of 6.5/10 or comparable grades.
Note that the Bachelor's/ Master's degree or equivalent qualification should be from any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956; or be recognized by the Ministry of Education, Government of India; or possess an equivalent qualification from an institution approved by AICTE.
Candidates in their last year of a Master's/ bachelor’s programme that would qualify them to apply may also apply. Such candidates, if selected, will only be allowed to join the programme provisionally if they submit a certificate latest by May 31, of the year of admission from the Principal/Head of the Department/Registrar or Director of the university/institute (issued on or before May 31, of the year of admission) stating that they have appeared for the examinations (including practical examinations) in all the subjects required for obtaining the Master's/Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification. Their admission will be confirmed upon submission of mark sheets and a certificate confirming completion of the Master's/bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification referred to in the certificate issued by the Principal/Registrar of their college/institution. The deadline for submitting the mark sheet and certificate is December 31 of the year of admission.
Please note that candidates who have applied based on their master's degree must meet the 55% marks stipulation, while those who have applied based on their bachelor's degree must meet the 6.5 CGPA (or equivalent) marks stipulation. Non-fulfillment of these conditions will automatically result in the cancellation of the provisional admission.
The applicants should preferably be below 35 years of age.
Reservation: A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) as per GoI rules. Reservation policy will be followed as per the Government of India rules.

A 1-year/2-semester master's degree programme (Full Time) with at least 65% marks in aggregate after a 4 year/8-semester bachelor's degree programme (Full Time) with at least 65% marks or a 2-year/4-semester master's degree programme (Full Time) with at least 65% marks after a 3-year bachelor's degree programme (Full Time) with at least 65% marks, or its equivalent grade wherever grading system is followed. Candidates applying based on master’s degree programme should have at least 2 years of professional experience after master’s degree.

A candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme (Full Time) should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale, wherever the grading system is followed. Candidates applying based on a bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 4 years of professional experience after a bachelor’s degree.
OR
A Candidate with professional qualifications CA, ICWA/CMA, CS (with at least 60% aggregate marks), along with a B.Com./ Degree (with at least 60% aggregate marks). Candidates applying based on the mentioned degree should have at least 2 years of professional experience after completion of their professional degree.
The upper age limit is preferably 45 years. For exceptionally brilliant Executive Ph.D. candidates, the age limit can be relaxed to 55 years. Candidates should preferably have demonstrated research potential through publications in reputable international conferences, journals, patents, or technology transfer.
Candidates who meet the above requirements should look out for prospective faculty member(s) from IIM MUMBAI in the area where he/she is interested to apply for his/her Doctoral Programme. A research proposal approved by the prospective Faculty Guide(s) shall be submitted by the candidate at the time of the application.
