Digital Analytics, Modelling, and Simulation for Port Management

Apply Online

Data analytics and simulations are enabling technologies emerging from Industry 4.0 that assist port industries in their effective management. By doing this program, the participants will be familiarised with the essential principles of data analytics, modeling, and simulation in order to facilitate the efficient management of port-related operation decisions. Due to the involvement of multiple stakeholders in the entirety of the port value chain, effective port management is regarded as a crucial strategic issue for port authorities. These stakeholders include shipowners, cargo traders, oil companies, and the government authorities of various nations, amongst others. Multiple shifts are occurring in the operational activities of port infrastructure as a result of the introduction of the robust technological infrastructure associated with Industry 4.0. Some examples of this include big data analytics, simulation, optimization modeling based on augmented reality, and collaborative robots. Nevertheless, figuring out how to enable these digital infrastructure capabilities for the optimal management of data collected from various operational sources of ports along the entire value chain is a fairly laborious effort at the moment. Managing the terminal operating system, container stacking, cargo handling equipment, and preventive maintenance of machinery such as cranes are some of the key application areas and issues in port operations that require advanced data analytics, simulation, and optimization modeling tool and techniques. It would be possible for port organizations to maintain efficient economic flows throughout the whole value chain if they were able to get actionable insights from the data supplied by the aforementioned application areas.
This program is designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to analytics and simulation through numerous examples and exercises applied to real-world port operations.

The following are the objectives of this program:
1)    To understand the basics of port management and how it works
2)    To analyze complex port operations problems using software such as FlexSIM and anyLogistix to do data analytics, modeling, and simulation.
3)    To use different analytics and simulation techniques in real life, especially when it comes to managing ports.

•    The fundamentals of port operations and their management
•    The importance of digital analytics, modelling, and simulation to the field of port operations
•    An overview of the three primary forms of analytics (prescriptive, predictive, and descriptive)
•    A discussion of Machine Learning techniques based on supervised and unsupervised learning for managing data produced by diverse port application domains.
