National Space Day

The Government of India has officially declared August 23rd as "National Space Day" to honour the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission. Towards the celebration of “National Space Day” i.e on 23rd August 2024, as the run-up to the main event, a series of activities have been planned at IIM Mumbai.

1. Awareness Building Programme on Indian Space
To inspire our students towards space technology and its application, an “Awareness Building Programme on Indian Space” for the students of IIM Mumbai happened on 09 Aug 2024. The programme focussed on showcasing to IIM Mumbai students the documentary videos highlighting the achievements of Indian Space.

4. Panel Discussion

IIM Mumbai, under the leadership of Director-Prof. Manoj Kumar Tiwari, celebrated India's first National Space Day, recognising India’s space achievements by organizing a Panel Discussion on the theme "Space Tech Applications in Business". The online event on 22nd August 2024 was a resounding success, filled with insightful discussions towards the vast expanse of space, inspiring entire IIM Community.

Shri Hari Kumar R (General Manager, Technology & Planning - Bharat Electronics Ltd),
Shri Puneet Kumar Mishra (Head, Satellite Antenna Characterization, Test & Design Section - URSC),
Shri Kiran Sangoram (Senior Director Sales - Hughes Communications India Limited),
Prof. Vivekanand Khanapuri (Dean, Sponsored Research and Consultancy, IIM Mumbai)

They shared their valuable experiences and insights on various dimensions of space technology such as manufacturing capabilities, commercialization aspects, business opportunities through space applications, Government Initiatives and startups. The panel deliberated and provided deeper understanding of the business opportunities which can be leveraged with Space Technology.

Shri Hari Kumar R focused on national security, LEO satellites, inter-satellite communication, and India's space technology capabilities.
Shri Puneet Kumar Mishra highlighted IIM Mumbai's role in commercializing scientific innovations and India's goal to increase its share in the global space market.
Shri Kiran Sangoram discussed the applications and potential of satellite communication in sectors like banking, maritime, and disaster management.
Prof. Manoj Kumar Tiwari highlighted how the space technology can be utilized to solve the existing logistics and supply chain challenges contributing to Viksit Bharat 2047.

The session was effortlessly moderated by Prof. Vivekanand B Khanapuri with his rich experience across industry sectors who nicely summarised the pointers given by experts and how IIM Mumbai can leverage the space technology applications.
