A vibrant and colourful two days awaited the National Institute of Engineering (NITIE) campus last October. Arohan, the annual cultural fest of NITIE, was held from 11th -12th October 2014 as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations. Two days of dance, music, Bollywood and non-stop fun and fanfare got the crowd going, set the stage on fire and got the heads banging. Arohan had myriad events lined up for the two days which had up the fun quotient by several notches. From rock concerts to graffiti, from short films to street plays, the cultural fest had something for everyone. The campus also welcomed personalities who have taken the road less travelled, luminaries who had it in them to follow their passion, persevere, and succeed by taking a path that was fraught with risk. The event drew participants not only from within Mumbai but also from the top B-Schools from all over India. Events ranged from plays, pop and rock shows, fusion and fashion shows ensured that the atmosphere was always electric and there was never a dull moment. The festival got rolling with the much awaited event, Headbangerz Arena. The stage was all set for the upcoming college bands to battle it out to be the next ‘Metallicas’ and ‘Queens’.Nukkad Natak was another main attraction of the fest. An equally exciting and yet satirical and intense experience of a tradition lost in time, these street plays showcased one of the many facets of Indian culture.
CHALCHITRA was the ideal platform for the aspiring directors and actors to display their talents and to set the screen ablaze. The event also had something for the painters to look forward to. Doodle was the graffiti competition where the artists could let their imagination soar and let the colours do the talking. And all this was just a glimpse of what was about to happen. Other events included Surkshetra, Mosaic, Open Shutter, Informalz and the list goes on and on! And NITIE that time of the year also got a share of Bollywood too. Movie superstar Tigmanshu Dhulia, from Gangs of Wasseypur, visited the campus during Arohan and he made sure no one was devoid of listening to his legendary line “Tum se Na ho payega”.
