Indian Institute of Management, Mumbai celebrated the 78th Independence Day on 15th August 2024 at IIM Mumbai Campus in a grand manner. As per the guidelines of Ministry of Education, Govt. of India, IIM Mumbai commemorates the 77th anniversary of India's independence with the "Har Ghar Tiranga" campaign aiming to make nation-building more of a personal experience for the citizen while highlighting the significance of citizen commitment. IIM Mumbai Sports & Cultural Committee organized various sports and cultural programs ie. Marathon, Patriotic Songs, a short play on Partition Horror Remembrance Day, Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, etc.
The 78th Independence Day celebration started with Campus Marathon at 07:00 AM at Swamy Vivekananda Hall. Flag hoisting ceremony was done by Prof. Manoj Kumar Tiwari, Director, IIM Mumbai at 9.00 am on the lawn facing Vihar Lake. He presided over the function and inspired the audience by enlightening the importance of Independence Day. He shared his views regarding the freedom struggle and how we all should contribute to nation-building.
The Director expressed happiness that under the visionary leadership of the Chairman, Board of Governors, Shri Shashi Kiran Shetty, IIM Mumbai has secured the 6th rank in the coveted National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) India Rankings 2024. He mentioned that we must strive to make IIM Mumbai, the best business school in the country and the world. He highlighted the academic activities and achievements of the institute during the year 2023-24. The Director also highlighted the upcoming plans for the betterment of the institute.
On this occasion, Lt. Cdr (Mrs.) Nisha Singh, Chief Administrative Officer, IIM Mumbai administered the pledge on the Preamble of the Constitution of India. Likewise, Prof. Utpal Chattopadhyay, Chairperson (Student Welfare and Hostel Management) and Prof. Rauf Iqbal, Dean (Student Affairs) administered the pledge of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and Anti-Ragging.
With a view to motivating and encouraging the meritorious children of Faculty, Officers, and staff for their performance in the 10th / 12th standard Board Examinations held in March/April 2024, a Certificate of appreciation and cash awards were distributed by the Director after the flag hoisting ceremony. Also, a Certificate of appreciation and medal was given by the Director and faculty members to the winners of the Marathon and short play on Partition Horror Remembrance Day.
The program was well supported by IIM Mumbai Faculty, Officers, Staff and their family members, PGP, and Fellow Students. Shri Aftab Alam, AAO Grade 1 (Hindi), IIM Mumbai hosted the program and gave the vote of thanks. The program ended with the the distribution of sweets.
